Schedule An Exam

Use this page to schedule an appointment for an exam. Note that our test site provides the performance and case study exams — knowledge exams are proctored at sites designated by CASLI.

Before scheduling an exam, purchase the exam directly through CASLI. You will be provided an exam token (a unique identification number for your exam). You will provide the token number when you schedule your appointment and on on the day of the exam.

To reserve an appointment:

  • Choose one of the three options below (performance only, case study/GAP only, or performance + case study)
  • Click on a date on the calendar with a blue circle.
  • Select a time from the available appointments.
  • Fill out the form (name, contact information, RID number, test token, test type)
  • Once scheduled, you will receive an email confirmation from Calendly.
  • Soon after, you will receive additional information via email from the proctor of your test.

Performance Exam Only
NIC or CDI

Choose this exam if you plan to take the performance exam only.
The NIC exam is for hearing interpreters, and the CDI exam is for Deaf interpreters.

Total exam duration: 2 hours.

NIC Performance + Case Study Exam
NIC or CDI

Choose this option if you plan to take
two exams in one appointment:
The performance exam (2 hours) and
the case study exam (90 minutes).
The NIC exam is for hearing interpreters, and the CDI exam is for Deaf interpreters.

you choose your exam date.)

Total appointment duration: 4 hours
(includes a 20 minute break between exams).

Case Study Exam Only
(GAP Test)

Choose this option if you plan to take
the case study exam only (90 minutes).

The case study exam (the GAP Test) is generally taken by candidates who took the knowledge exam under the prior NIC testing system.
